Spine #4: Inglourious Basterds

Spine #4, also announced earlier this year, is Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

The 801 Collection's second film from 2009 in just four spines shows that as much as people are saying quality cinema is dead, proves our opinions think otherwise.

Inglourious Basterds is a dramatic, harsh tale that featured the best acting performance of the year (and one of the best all time) by Christoph Waltz. Tarantino does a good job of including some suspense, action, and a bit of comedy in this gritty war movie that features plenty of drama and well spoken dialogue.

Brief Synopsis: In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis.

Release: 2009  |  Runtime: 153 min  |  Rating: R  |  Director: Quentin Tarantino

Spine #3: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Spine #3 was announced mid-2011, with the first group of ten; Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a fun, exciting family movie that does just as much for the adults as it does the children. Wes Anderson's adaptation of the children's book is more than a success, it's a masterpiece.

The movie is considered by the voting board to be one of the best family titles available today. It is even on 3/5 of the voters Top 10 lists, and is often referred to as a movie that can be "watched time and time again."

Brief Synopsis: An urbane fox cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways and then must help his community survive the farmers' retaliation.

Release: 2009  |  Runtime: 87 min  |  Rating: PG  |  Director: Wes Anderson

Spine #2: The Seventh Seal

Please join us as we add Spine #2 to The 801 Collection, The Seventh Seal.

The Seventh Seal is Ingmar Bergman's definite masterpiece that deals with the subject of life, death and war. The movie is on All-Time Greatest Film lists everywhere, is a part of the acclaimed Criterion Collection, and is rated an 8.4 on IMDB.

The film is a hands-down favorite of the 801 voting board, and is held in high regards by the voters and is considered one of the best classics on the list.

Brief Synopsis: A man seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague.

Release: 1957  |  Runtime: 96 min  |  Rating: PG  |  Director: Ingmar Bergman

Spine #1: V for Vendetta

The 801 Collection will feature a wide collection of great quality movies. These amazing films will range from new to classic, foreign to domestic, action to drama to comedy, and just about anything else you can think of.

Please join us in welcoming Spine #1 to the collection, V for Vendetta.

V for Vendetta was added to the collection due to its amazing plot (provided from rich source material), its strong acting performances, and its deep undertones of freedom and pursuit of what is right.

The movie is in the Top 10 lists of ALL voting members, and has been considered an instant classic by the majority of the voting board.

Brief Synopsis: A shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.

Welcome to The 801

The 801 Collection is a growing library of movies from around the world (North America being most prominently represented) that are considered some of the greatest films created by the organizers of the collection.

The 801 Collection is not a ranking of number one through one-hundred, but more of a representation of a complete collection of movies that everybody should take the time to view. The collection consists of movies from various genres, studios, countries and time periods. Each movie in the collection is a masterpiece of film-making in one factor or another. Titles considered for the list display a variety of differences but when it all comes down to it they share the aspect of having strong writing, good acting, and being a well directed project.

Once again, this isn't a ranking system, as the spine number is an indication of what order that title was added to the collection. To those in charge of The 801 Collection, spine number Ten is just as significant as spine number One.

The 801 Collection is still small, and is being added to on a monthly basis. With updates of the collection posted via the voters of the collection.

Currently there are 5 voters that decide on what is added to the collection.
